Published with the purpose of documenting and analyzing various forms and experiences of living in a big city as Bucharest, the volume „From streets to residential ensembles. Eight hypostases of living in contemporary Bucharest” presents from a personal perspective different housing experiences in the city of our time. Often hidden of even ignored in the public spectrum, starting precisely from their simplicity and their naturalness, the volume surprises the daily rhythm of living of those next to us, of floor neighbors, district neighbors and of those from other parts of Bucharest, often unknown. The volume explores the notion of property which influences through its existence/absence or through the simple projection of an owned residence, the housing routes of Bucharest inhabitants. The eight chapters-hypostases are reflections of the way in which the residents of Bucharest negociate their living space, the strategies they use to ensure at least a satisfactory housing experience, but also the way in which housing is determined by external factors, beyond the control of an inhabitant. The volume also explores the aspirational standard regarding the home dreamed by the residents of Bucharest: the individual dwelling or otherwise said a house with a small yard, quiet and some fresh air.

The volume „From streets to residential ensembles. Eight hypostases of living in contemporary Bucharest” is the result of the effort of an interdisciplinary team of researchers from Vira Association, the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant and research assistants with different training, mainly sociological, athropological and architectural background. You can navigate through the research calendar, from March to August 2015 to see when we were on the field, what we saw and what the Bucharest inhabitants shared with us.
